Five tips for surviving latest 'Legend of Zelda
Five tips for surviving latest 'Legend of Zelda
The video game for Nintendo Switch and the Wii U represents a huge leap for the 31-year-old franchise, offering players beautiful landscapes to explore and countless dangers to escape.
Survival is a key theme. No longer do you break vases or cut through grass in hopes of restoring your health or finding rupees — the game's currency. Breath of the Wild is also huge. Hours will be spent exploring every inch of the game's world.
To help make your visit to Hyrule pleasant, here are some tips:
1. Cook as much as possible. See all those apples, herbs and mushrooms you're finding? You can cook them all! Yes, you can eat them raw, but the real benefits come from cooking. Once you find a pot to cook, experiment with ingredients. In most cases, mix together a meat, fruit or vegetable, and herbs and you'll get a solid dish. Benefits vary depending on the combination. Some dishes provide you resistance to cold or heat. One dish I made not only refilled my health, but gave me four extra temporary hearts that disappear if I take damage. Music cues tell you right away whether you made a masterpiece or a clunker (like Dubious Food). You can also mix parts from monsters and creatures like frogs to make elixirs. Also, pay attention to the properties of each item. It will give you a sense of what benefits you might get from cooking.
2. Stickers are your friend. Use often. When players view the map, they can pin specific locations, like a Shrine off in the distance. There are also a lot of Stickers players can place to save key points, such as special characters, pots to cook food and other important locations. Don't be afraid to use these frequently. It will really help navigating Hyrule.
3. Toss weapons about to break. There are some really great weapons in this game, from spears to giant axes you wield with two hands. They all have one thing in common: use them too much and they shatter. One fun trick to get a little extra damage is toss the weapon at a target. This applies to swords and similar weapons, but not bows. Plus, it's really fun.
4. Shrines make great travel hubs. Whether you solve the puzzle within the Shrine or not, simply entering will unlock it as a fast-travel spot. This is especially great if you get stuck and want to break away to do something else. Because the world is so big, the more Shrines and towers you can unlock, the better.
5. Know when to make the leap. Climbing is one of the most interesting parts of Zelda, as you manage your stamina attempting to zip up a mountain or other structure. Jumping takes a lot out of you, so knowing when to use it is important. Sometimes, you'll need to slowly climb to preserve stamina, or you make need to make that final leap to get over the top. It can be the difference between reaching the top or taking a really nasty spill.

Mother Of Mercy And McAuley Merging
Two all-girls Catholic high schools are merging. Sisters of Mercy says Mother of Mercy and McAuley high schools will become Mercy McAuley High beginning with the 2018-2019 school year.
The blended school will be housed at the current McAuley campus in College Hill.
Sisters of Mercy - South Central Community, which operates both schools, says the decision is based on decreasing enrollments.
"A declining pool of potential students is impacting enrollment now and will continue to do so in the future. This is a situation affecting Catholic schools nationwide, as well as here in Cincinnati," says Sister Jane Hotstream, president of the Sisters of Mercy.
Mercy current has 495 students, McAuley has 468.
The sisters say current financial aid packages will remain in place and will transfer to the new school.
"We recognize this change is difficult and emotional for the communities of Mother of Mercy and of McAuley, and we understand that everyone who loves these schools - especially the girls - will need our understanding and support in the days and weeks to come," says Sister Jane.
It's unclear how many teaching positions will be affected. The release says staffing at the new school "will be based on student needs. It's too soon for us to know what those staffing requirements will be."
McAuley was chosen because it is the newer of the two buildings. The Sisters say the Mercy building, "although beautiful, is more than 100 years old and needs significant improvements."
Decisions about a new principal, president, a new mascot and school colors have not been made.

Santoliquito: Danny Garcia Is Philly’s Last Standing Sports Hope

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Ben Simmons never played a minute this season for the 76ers, and Joel Embiid will not play another minute. The Phillies are in spring training and expected to lose around 90 games again. The Flyers are an afterthought on the brink of not making the playoffs for the third time in the last five years. The Eagles finished 7-9 and don’t seem to be going anywhere fast.
That’s the sorry state of the present Philadelphia sports landscape.
If there is a hope, it’s undefeated welterweight champion Danny Garcia, who will be fighting Keith Thurman on CBS national TV Saturday night from Barclays Center in one of the most anticipated fights of the year.
Garcia, the WBC champ, is once again in the underdog role against the heavy-handed Thurman, who holds some form of the WBA title.
“I really don’t care what people think,” Garcia said. “People are going to think what the they want to think. It’s been that way my whole career. Sometimes I don’t even get the respect I feel I deserve from Philly, and I love Philly. I’m the first Puerto Rican world champion from Philly and that gets no headline. But hey, I’m in a great spot right now and I know what I have to do.
“I’ve been I nthis spot before. No one thought I could beat Amir Khan and look what happened to him (Garcia KO 4 Khan). No one thought I would beat (Lucas) Matthysse and look what happened to him (Garcia W 12 Matthysse). I see what happening to the sports teams in this town, and it’s why I have to represent. I love my teams. I love this city, and it’s why I named my daughter Philly Garcia. If beating Thurman puts a smile on fan who is sad over the Sixers right now, I know I did my job.”
Thurman brings problems. He is by far the toughest opponent “Swift” has ever faced. He’s faced better opponents recently, including Shawn Porter, in a 2016 candidate for Fight of the Year.
But Garcia doesn’t see it that way.
“To me, he’s just a name,” Garcia said. “Another name. That’s all. I’m little tired of people doubting me. I’m a little pissed at people saying I can’t do this and I can’t do that. We’ll see. We’re not losers in Philly. I’m a winner and I plan on proving that again.”
